Unveiling the Historic Sailing Schooner Curlew

Our vessel, the Historic Sailing Schooner Curlew, stands as a testament to craftsmanship and maritime history. Built in 1926 by skilled artisans using the finest woods, Curlew embodies both strength and beauty. The wind, wood, and water connection on this historic vessel create a special platform for the solemn act of scattering cremated remains.

Honoring Your Loved Ones with Tradition

In true nautical fashion, as you lower our flower-covered basket cradling the ashes, we perform a symbolic ritual. The ship's bell tolls eight times, signifying the last watch, cannons fire in a three-round military salute (by request), and a bagpipe rendition of Amazing Grace fills the air. As a keepsake, you'll receive a frameable certificate capturing this moment.

Sailing Through History with Curlew:

A Maritime Legacy

Curlew, since January 31, 1940, has been a maritime icon. Donated to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, she served in WWII and later at the USCG Guard Recruit Training Center until 1960.

Sailor Testimonials offer insights into her legacy. Bill Andree recalls every boot camp experiencing a one-day training on Curlew in 1954. Robert Nogueira's account from the late 1950s confirms her role in basic training. There are even unconfirmed claims of President Kennedy sailing on Curlew in 1960.

Honoring Veterans with Respect

While naval tradition dictates that a burial at sea for veterans is typically handled by the Navy during deployment, the ceremony excludes civilians from being present. Curlew steps in as a respectful, first-class alternative, providing families the opportunity to commemorate their loved ones with dignity and style.
